If you have an unused credit card, what should you do? Will you cancel it? Or keep it? Getting the answer of that question needs time to think and make a plan. Sound strange!

It’s true that having a credit card may affect your financial life and may put you under a mountain of debt. But on the other hand, if you look carefully to what you owe and what you own, you would find the key to answer this question.

The most important thing we should take into consideration first is to know how this unused credit card may affect your credit scoring. That means you should think before canceling your unused credit card.

It seems easy for you to take that decision but in fact it has many results that may be not on your side. Many people are not aware of this fact that closing their unused cards will not wipe out their past credit history.

Before you cancel your unused credit card, be sure that you don’t want it anymore in the future. There are several people, who cancelled their credit cards, wish to regain them now. Don’t let yourself be one of them.

Also, it’s wrong to think that cancelling your unused credit cards just as a short term strategy will increase your credit rating. That’s completely wrong as it may make the situation worse.

The question now is: how to make such a decision? Keep your unused credit card or cancel it?!!

First, you should make a thorough study that you won’t need the credit card anymore in the future. Then, make everything clear for you. Know well what you owe and what you own. After that, find out which path is right for you to follow to get rid of debts as soon as possible.

Second, check whether there is any balance to be paid for the credit card you are about to cancel. Don’t cancel your credit card while you are still paying the balance. And you can make up your mind and cancel it after completely paying the balance amounts.

Third, get more familiar with your credit scoring. Check your credit report and make it clear if your credit card is making any problem to your credit scoring.

Well, now, never cancel your unused credit card if you are sure that you will use it later in some form. In this case, try to manage your credit cards in a good way.
