Many collection companies are now asking people to pay their debt on time. They may use some illegal tactics, threats and vulgar language, or harassing phone calls.
As a result, people are wondering how to stop debt collection efforts, and stop debt collectors from calling them. Short of filing for bankruptcy there are several methods that will help stopping unethical debt collection.
Debt elimination techniques are the best tool we can use to stop debt collection calls. Let’s find out some of those techniques if we really have problems from receiving those silly calls.
1) Make a request: If you get tired of receiving silly phone calls asking you to pay your debt, make a request that they no longer contact you about the debt. That requires two things: telling them that you don’t want them to contact you anymore on the phone AND in writing.
When you make that request on the phone, be sure to record that call and notice them that you are recording the conversation. Then, send a written request certified mail with a return receipt so that you have proof they have received the notice to stop calling.
2) Apply the law: Some collection agencies don’t stop calling you and break the law on a regular basis. In this case, you may call the police because some agencies may use violence practices forcing you to pay your debts.
In this case, you should notify them that you are not recording the conversation only, but telling them that they are in violation of federal law also.
Be patient as this process takes much time. Also, you should find a good debt counselor who will use debt negotiation techniques that will reduce your debt levels considerably to a more manageable level.
All in all, if you want to stop debt collection efforts, pay off your debts as soon as possible.
